The fine, soft hand woven Pashmina fibre that is the basis of all Home Gallery's shawls and clothing is light, warm and sumptuous. The versatility and durability of our Pashmina shawls is the result of our two different Pashmina shawl weights. Our normal weight Pashmina is 70% Pashmina and 30% silk, this option is the more lavish and heavy of the two and is appropriate for any time of year. We also carry summer weight Pashmina shawls that are 80% Pashmina and 20% silk, these are light and elegant yet retain the utter luxury of the Pashmina fibre.
Pashmina is the Persian word for wool. Yet Pashmina is no ordinary wool, it is collected from the soft coat of hair on the underbelly of the Himalayan mountain goat, the Capra Hircus. The Capra Hircus lives in the most remote and cold regions of the Tibetan plateau. It's wool is so extremely valued because one goat can only produce three to eight ounces of fibre per year. It is also a little known fact that the higher the altitude, the softer the underbelly down. The Pashmina wool is considered among the finest, most rare and most luxurious wools in the world.
Individually designed & custom made
Home Gallery's Pashmina shawl designs are inspired from Africa, some derived from the African bush and wildlife and others from the Kuba tribal textiles of central Africa. They are all individually designed, custom made and hand painted. Upon request they are available in children's sizes or with corporate logos. The colour, design, style, weight and size are all customized, as are the style of tassels, suede or Pashmina. Home Gallery's Pashminas are glamorous and elegant and can be printed either in solid colours or with beautiful African themes.
